Oatmeal Cookies for Mikey & Me

Courage, what it took to bake oatmeal apricot cookies for human consumption. The are really hard to resist, but I had to try my hand at baking for us and Mikey in the same session. It worked really well.

First I prepared the dried fruit (This time I used apricots—The dried plums made the biscuits look like chocolate. Then I assembled all the ingredients: eggs, whole wheat flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, brown sugar and butter. I started with the people cookies.  While they were baking, I assembled the doggie oatmeal cookies.

By the time the people cookies were cooling on racks, I had cut the dog bone shapes and put them on the same cookie sheets and baked them. It really is easy to use the same ingredients and tools for both recipes: one assembly, one cleanup.  Everything was finished within an hour.

And….Mikey likes them.  Mikey is too fussy—he didn’t want the little biscuits but devoured the big ones. Do you think the parrots will mind eating treats that look like dog biscuits?

Now I have to stay away from the cookies (I already ate three.)

  1. It's tomorrow and Mikey still likes the oatmeal cookie biscuits. He likes them as much as his favorite chicken jerky. He even settled for one of the little ones.

The only problem is that I've been eating the people cookies nonstop.
